In 1853,it is said that a Jewish colonist buried a cast gold sculpture of the head of Christ on the outskirts of Lyon. Later, this plac became known as the Parc de la Tete d’Or (Golden Head Park). In 2004,I have the opportunity to place a gold-plated model of a Song-dynasty pavilion, named Golden Head, atop the Museum of Contemporary Art,Lyon, just across from the “Parc.” Roffs do not necessarily face upwards, just as heads sometimes face downwards. This is especially true here, where the disappearance of a golden head of Christ hurried underground leads to a golden Song-dynasty roof atop the museum. The relationship between them is that both are lying low – he head on the left and the roof on the right or,maybe, the roof on the left and the head on the right. If we imagine a kind of rotating perpendicular line,it might look like this:Everything is changed and can be reborn, just as a missing Christ’s head can turn into a Song-dynasty pavilion. Only the incorruptibility of the gold itself does not change. Today’s gold,China’s gold, yesterday’s gold, and France’s gold – they are all the same.
