The Ullens Collection Sold for USD 24 million

Mr. Guy Ullens is a famous Belgiam art collector, also one of the most important Chinese artwork collectors in the world. He collects Chinese classical art£¬and modern and contemporary art since 1980s. He has been remarked by Martin Bailey on Apollo magazine as one of the top 20 influential collectors as well as one of the top 10 contemporary art collectors in the world.
On the night of May 29th in Beijing, the 18 pieces of Chinese paintings collected by Mr. Ullens were go under hammer at Poly 2009 Chinese artworks evening sale. The auction venue was very crowded with over 1500 audiences. Through several hours of bidding war, the 18 pieces were successfully sold for USD 24 million. The average-price of these paintings was over USD 1 million that had significant impact in the international art world. Many brilliant paintings were sold for records this year, such as¡°Rare birds painted from life¡± by Emperor Huizong sold for almost USD 9 million, ¡°Thinking of history at my space¡± by Chen Yifei sold for about USD 6 million, and ¡°Bloodline series¡± by Zhang Xiaogang sold for about USD 2.4 million. Also, works by Liu Xiaodong, Qi Baishi, Fu Baoshi had great result. As Poly Auction said, ¡°Chinese collectors respect Mr. Ullens, and endorse the quality of his collection, so they spent great passion while bidding for these paintings.
