Wang Guangyi is well-known for his ¡°Political Pop¡±, while his earlier works remain largely unknown. The Post-Classicism ---- Sun Rising is produced in early 1980s. It was the fashion in 1980s for most of Chinese artists to follow western modernism. As a gifted artist, however, Wang Guangyi has found his own art language from the beginning. The Post ¨CClassicism shares something with Cubism and Surrealism, but it is generally different from both of them in style. It shows the tragic situation of China and Chinese people by depicting a lonely girl. She turns her back to her audiences as if she is not willing to talk to them. She prefers stay in her loneliness to share her thoughts with the public. It is because she could not trust them, or because she could not trust herself. The painting is dominated by cold colors, which reveals the situation of Chinese contemporary artists and Chinese society in 1980s perfectly.
